Happy Hour

I was recently asked for suggestions on Happy Hour and I decided that it would be a good topic for a blog. Scott and I usually don't go out to happy hour but we do a have a few favorites.

Morton's is by far Scott's favorite place to eat, but it usually takes an occasion to get us to go there. Like say a wedding present to ourselves right before we got married :) Last month, Scott's brother invited us to Morton's Power Hour after work and it turned out to be a great way to have Morton's without the heavy bill (and tummy) in the end. A few of their appetizers "Bar Bites" are only $5. We ended up sharing the crab cakes (which weren't my favorite, but the sauce was good), the four petite filet mignon sandwiches and the blue cheese French fries. Scott also got a glass of wine which was only $5. So we got out of Morton's under $30 and were surprising full. Their Power Hour in San Jose is from 5-6:30 and 9-close.

The first time I came to Koji was for drinks at around 10 pm on some random night a few years ago. It wasn't until my friend had her 25th birthday did I discover their awesome happy hour. It starts from 6 pm - 9 pm, which is amazing for a happy hour timing. I have two favorite foods there: the Nori fries (which are fries with seaweed and spices) and panko crusted calamari. They also have a delicious Ahi Tuna Tartar. My favorite drink there is the White Lotus, which is shochu, white cranberry juice, lime juice and red cranberries as a garnish. We end up spending about $40-50 depending on how long we stay there and whether or not I should drive home.

E & O Trading Co. is a South East Asian Grill and although I've never actually eaten dinner here, I have been to their happy hour a couple of times. It's from 4 pm - 6 pm on weekdays, and once, we came here for happy hour and followed it up with #2 Koji to continue our night. E & O is often recognized for it's corn fritters, so of course I had to try them the first time I came. Truthfully, don't waste your time; there are other more delicious items on the menu. They're pretty greasy and difficult to eat. I would instead suggest getting a plate (or two) of their calamari, which comes with a smoky/spicy flavored green sauce, which is my favorite thing to order. The other two dishes I would suggest are their three seeded flat bread and the chicken satay. As for drinks, I've had their mango, vanilla mojito and I didn't feel the need to try anything else! Their small plates are $3, and drinks range from $3-7.

Chevy's is one of my favorite chain restaurants and they have one of the best happy hour's out there. Their happy hour hours are from 3 pm - 7 pm which wins the award of longest happy hour (on my list). I usually get their tortilla soup which is so yummy and spicy, but unfortunately not on their happy hour menu. The two dishes that I enjoy on the happy hour menu are the chicken flautas and the chicken fajita nachos. Appetizers are 50% off and drinks are only $3. I usually enjoy a nice cool strawberry margarita and Scott usually gets a beer. Enjoy this happy hour in the Chevy's Cantina for less than $30 per couple.

Chili's is another chain favorite but definitely lacks in the happy hour department. They don't even have an advertisement for it on their website! So, sorry for not having enough information about it. I like Chili's meals from their enchilada soup to their chicken Cesar pita to their extremely unhealthy chicken crispers. But I feel like their happy hour just doesn't cut it. Although, their happy hour does feature one of mine and Scott's favorites, the skillet queso. Scott also enjoys their tall beers and on occasion their margaritas.

To Do List #1

In the first few weeks of the new year, I've already done pretty well at To Do List #1. I have a few pictures to share.

McMinn in the Penalty Box at the HP Pavillion

The Casuga Boys at Christopher's Birthday Dinner at Olive Garden

Mother and Daughter at Christopher's Birthday Dinner at Olive Garden

The Casuga Kids at Christopher's Birthday Dinner

The Girls at Paige's Birthday Dinner in Campbell

And its only day 12 of the New Year. Not too shabby!

2010 To Do List

Most people don't stick to their New Year's resolutions. Scott doesn't make any, unless of course he knows he can actually complete them. Last year his one and only resolution was to find a new job, and within the first three months of 2009, he completed it! I've decided to come up with a "2010 To Do List", for my New Year's resolutions. The top of my list starts off with a little gift I got for Christmas.

Kristina's 2010 To Do List

1. Capture Memories with my family and friends.

My parents gave me a cute and fancy new camera for Christmas. Not only does it take amazing photos, but it also takes HD videos. I know some people aren't fond of having their pictures taken, but just fair warning: if you'll be hanging out with me in 2010, you can bet I'll be taking a picture of you.

2. Take a vacation with my husband (take more than one if possible).

Scott and I have plans to go to Hawaii this year, but we have no definite plans at the moment. This is also the first year that we don't have a plan for our anniversary. So sometime between now and December we'll have to come up with one (or more) ways to take a vacation with one another. If we stay at the Hotel Valencia for one night it's still a vacation :)

3. Become more aware of my health.

I have a severe addiction for French fries. If I eat one, I have to eat them all. French fries have a lot of sodium and they're fried, not a great combination for a healthy person. Okay, limit my French fry intake. Exercise for health, rather than for vanity. Usually I exercise to lose a little weight, but instead I should have a mindset that exercise is good for my heart. Okay, hit the gym 3 nights a week for 30 minutes each time. Cook excellent and low-fat meals. When I eat out I tend to eat much worse than if I cook at home. Plus I have tons of cookbooks that I can get great and healthy ideas from. Okay, make homemade meals 4 times a week and try a new recipe at least twice a month.

4. Do something new, every month.

I had a few fun adventures in 2009, from my first trip to Napa to biking along the Golden Gate. This year I'd like to seek out adventure wherever it may be! A few things I had in mind are going for a hike, indoor rock climbing, and learn to surf.

5. Be bold in my spirituality.

2009 was an incredible year for me, growing spiritually closer to God. In 2010, I want to do more about this, share God's love with my friends and family and even strangers, I'd love to help the community more and maybe even go on a missions trip. This year I want God to use me for His will, to spread His love to everyone I know.

So here I go, into 2010 with a few things I'd like to accomplish. Wish me luck!
